From the fresh,
deliciously creamy butter waiting to be spread on freshly
baked sourdough to the servers immediately whisking away
every dirtied plate, Donovan's is a place to feel pampered.
More than 600 wines (ranging in price from $35 to more than
$2,000) decorate the wine list, and appetizers like
Asparagus Salad (delicate asparagus spears and roasted red
peppers drizzled with balsamic vinegar) tantalize.
Vegetarians, don't even think
about it. Donovan's is a meat-eater's domain, with its
succulent barrel-cut filets and juicy chops. A 10-ounce
filet mignon is almost three inches high, while giant shrimp
dwarf the glass goblet in which they are served, cocktail
style. Entrees like 12-ounce New York strip steaks and
Australian racks of lamb are $31, while a 16-ounce T-bone
and a 20-ounce porterhouse demand up to $40.
Unlike at the comparable
well-known steakhouse Ruth's Chris, all of Donovan's entrees
are served with fresh veggies and potato, and bearnaise and
peppercorn sauces are offered at no extra charge. Not to be
outdone, Donovan's serves a fine selection of a la carte
items including sauteed mushrooms and creamed spinach.
