Overview:
Like
Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Denver's LoDo, the historic
Gaslamp Quarter, so named for its reproduction gas
streetlamps, is the most obvious party place in San Diego. More than 60 bars,
nightclubs, restaurants, theaters, trendy boutiques and
galleries do brisk business here long after the rest of
downtown is deserted.
The center
of the action is the length of Fifth Avenue. Fourth is a
close second. Most everyone comes here to eat, drink and
smoke cigars, but for those interested in viewing the
impressive Victorian, Italian Renaissance and other
turn-of-the-century architectural styles, there are tours to
clue you in on the Gaslamp's history.
