Overview:
The dance music is house
grooves, spun by DJs and varying in theme over three nights
(Club 909's global house on Thursdays, Absinthe's deep house
and European dance music on Fridays, Ibeza's Euro Latin
rhythms on Saturdays).
The club enjoys the trappings
of a downtown nightspot: sophisticated light and sound;
mini-mirror balls hanging from the ceiling; a long bar with
seating for perhaps 10; buff, black-clad beverage servers;
candles, sconces, draperies on the wall. Though large enough
to accommodate 230 customers, says proprietor Simon Shams,
The Room feels somewhat restricted by its narrow interior
and smallish dance floor. But sofa-bench seating against the
wall, a few linen-covered tables and chairs, and an
adjoining smokers patio compensate. The patio, in fact, with
its heat lamps and bracing coastal air, appears the spot of
choice.
